Keizer Community Band

About the Band

The Keizer Community Band is celebrating its twentieth anniversary!

It was formed in 1998 at the request of then Keizer mayor, Robert Newton. He wanted a band that would represent the community and furnish music for community functions as well as music for entertainment.

Mayor Newton asked retired Salem Public Schools Band Director Roy Shelton to recruit and develop a band that would accomplish these goals. Roy Shelton continued to build, improve and conduct the band for five years until his retirement in July 2003.

Michael Koenig, also a retired Salem Public Schools Band Director who taught at Parrish Middle School for 23 years and a former student of Roy's became director in September, 2003.

Both this and the stage band are active in Salem and the surrounding area playing concerts, in the Oregon Adult Band Festival, numerous dances and events such as the Iris Festival.
