Keizer Community Band

About the Band

The band was formed in 1998 at the request of then Keizer mayor, Robert Newton. He wanted a band that would represent the community and furnish music for community functions as well as music for entertainment.

Mayor Newton asked retired Salem Public Schools Band Director Roy Shelton to recruit and develop a band that would accomplish these goals. Roy Shelton continued to build, improve and conduct the band for five years until his retirement in July 2003.

Michael Koenig, also a retired Salem Public Schools Band Director who taught at Parrish Middle School for 23 years and one of Roy's former students, became director in September, 2003.

Both this band and a stage band are active in Salem. This band plays in the Oregon Adult Band Festival, the Iris Festival, and various concerts in the surrounding area.
